Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs

The Early Childhood/Special Education program offers a dual major in early childhood and special education, preparing students to work in both fields in grades P-5. All ECE/SPED cohorts begin in the fall or summer semester (one summer attendance is required before admittance into the program). During the fall placement, candidates are assigned to selected area schools and expected to attend preplanning along with the classroom teachers during both years of the program.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Early Childhood/Special Education Program, a student must:

  1. complete 60 semester hours of core curriculum credit (Area A – Area F) applicable to the ECE/SPED degree program with an overall grade point average of 2.75 or higher;
  2. area F coursework must carry a grade of “C” or better;
  3. area A coursework of the core curriculum must be completed with a grade of “C” or better;
  4. provide a passing score or exemption on the GACE Basic Skills Assessment test or its equivalent (see the Teacher Education Department web site for exemption information);
